Sleep training your baby with a book, app, or even with an infant sleep consultant is one of the hardest things you may ever do as a parent, full stop. With all the online chatter about what you should and shouldn’t do to sleep train your baby, how can you decide which method or expert to follow? The result? Fear. Confusion. Guilt. Shame. Conviction that you’re doing something wrong because no matter what you try, your baby is still waking up at all hours of the night and you’re losing your f’ing mind!
Here’s what I want you to know:
None of the virtual baby sleep training apps, advice, or methods are going to work because if you don’t know what you’re doing, how can you be consistent with your approach? How do you know when to respond to your baby and when to let them fuss a little bit more? So much depends on your baby’s age, developmental stage, personality, and what their voice and body language tell you. And that’s really hard to decipher when your baby is crying and all you want to do is make it stop!
The good news is – you don’t have to sleep train your baby alone. With Mommywise, we hold your hand and guide you step by step to sustainable success. We offer unlimited support until you achieve all your goals. We exclusively offer real-time, in-home sleep training support with a Mommywise coach by your side so that you can’t fail. You can spend unlimited cash on postpartum sleep support (i.e., night nurse or postpartum doula), but investing in an in-home baby sleep training consultant who guides you and your baby in real time is a far better investment because it’s not a band-aid – it leads to sustainable results!
Read on for more about what real-time support looks like – both during your in-home stay and after your Mommywise coach leaves!
What Real-Time Sleep Training Support Looks Like
Working with us is effortless and includes so much more than an infant sleep consultant can offer. Here are just a few of the things you’ll get:
In-home presence
Your Mommywise Coach basically moves into your home for 3-5 nights and days for the first part of your package. She will get to know you and your baby, check for a safe sleep environment, observe with expert eyes, and guide you step by step through successfully sleep training your baby, and so much more. If your baby is feeding to sleep or feeding all night, she’ll help you getting your baby feeding on an ideal schedule during the day. She’ll help you learn to read your baby’s cues – when to put your baby down, when respond to your baby, and when to give them more time to self-settle. She’ll help you understand what’s normal crying and what’s a genuine need that requires an immediate response.
Immediate feedback
You won’t ever be left second-guessing yourself when your Mommywise coach is in your home. You’ll never have to wait for a reply to a text or email because we make adjustments instantly as we go. We make many split-second decisions while we’re working with you and your baby, and you’ll help make decisions that feel aligned for you. All of your questions will be answered in real time!
Personalized approach
There is no one-size-fits-all sleep training method that works for every baby. We tailor our approach for your baby in real-time and make tweaks as we go when we see what’s working well (or not so much) for your baby. We take a holistic approach and factor in your baby’s eating patterns, age, developmental stage, personality, and what hasn’t worked well in the past. We’ll observe your baby in real time and help you make all the adjustments necessary to lead you to sustainable success.
Confidence-building
Because your Mommywise sleep coach is with you in your home, you’ll receive hands-on learning. Your coach will help you understand your baby’s cues, when to respond, and when to give your baby a little more time to self-settle. She’ll help you find an ideal schedule for your baby and help build your confidence that you know your baby better than anyone else, so you know what to do when your coach leaves your home. You’ll have written guidelines tailored for your baby (with instructions on how to handle illness, teething, travel, and more until your baby transfers to a toddler bed. By the end of your package – which includes unlimited support until you achieve all your goals – you will feel so much more confident about how to meet all your baby’s needs!
The In-Home Stay — Sleep Training with an Expert by Your Side
The in-home stay with your Mommywise coach is what sets us apart from other nanny or sleep training services. She will literally move in with you for 3-5 nights and days to guide you through every moment of sleep training. Here’s what that looks like.
Daytime guidance
You’ll be spending a lot of time with your Mommywise coach during the day. She’ll help you decide when and how to put your baby down for naps, and what to do if your baby wakes up crying after 20-40 minutes. She’ll help you rearrange your feeding schedule so that your baby is eating when they’re awake and falling asleep without feeding or rocking. Based on what she observes, she will make recommendations to change up our sleep training strategy minute by minute as she sees what works best for your baby. Most importantly, she’ll help you remain consistent so that your baby doesn’t get confused.
Overnights
You get to choose how involved you want to be during the nights. Your coach will invite you to sleep and take over the monitor at night. If your baby is on the younger side, she can respond to your baby overnight if they have any needs, or she can wake you up if you prefer to intervene yourself. If your baby is on the older side and has separation anxiety, your coach will wake you up to respond to your baby, if that’s even necessary. Most babies we work with sleep through the night – or don’t need any interventions at least – within 2-3 nights.
Sleep for you
Most families we work with are extremely sleep deprived, and your coach will encourage you to catch up on sleep while she’s there. You can wear earplugs and sleep during the nights she’s with you. You can take naps during the day if you want as well. You’ll still do all the caretaking and parenting, but we encourage you to take care of yourself, too. As long as one caregiver is available to make split-second decisions, you and your partner can take turns sleeping at night and during the day. We want you to feel rested by the time your coach leaves!
Overcoming challenges
Sleep training always comes with challenges. There are many ups and downs, and progress isn’t always linear. Your Mommywise coach will help you make decisions about how to shift strategy while you’re sleep training so you maintain consistency and progress through any challenges that come up while she’s with you, and for four weeks after she leaves your home. For example, if your baby is learning to roll or gets sick during sleep training, you’ll hit some challenges. Your coach will guide you through how to manage sickness or developmental leaps throughout your stay, and after she leaves.
After the Stay — Continued Real-Time Guidance
The in-home stay through sleep training is just the first part of your package. After your coach leaves your home, you have unlimited, dedicated support until you achieve all of your goals and feel confident that you don’t need us anymore. Usually, that happens within four weeks, but if you hit a roadblock, we won’t say goodbye until you’ve overcome whatever setback comes up. Your coach will give you tailored guidelines so you know how to handle illness, teething, developmental leaps, and travel all the way up until your baby transfers to a big kid bed. You will be able to navigate any setback that comes up, but our door is never closed. If you run into any trouble after your package ends, even if it’s a year later, reach out, and we’ll help you get back on track! Here’s what our ongoing guidance looks like:
- Follow-up calls & text support: We’ll schedule weekly calls to review patterns and the big picture so we can monitor your progress. Between scheduled calls, text your coach with questions anytime, and she’ll respond promptly by text or offer to hop on the phone when you’re both free! She’s dedicated to you for at least four weeks after her in-home stay, so you’ll always have your questions answered.
- Ongoing adjustments: Once your baby sleeps through the night and catches up on sleep, we’ll work on fine-tuning your nap schedule. Naps often take 2-3 weeks to fall into a new, predictable pattern, but your coach will guide you every step of the way so you know when and how to adjust as your baby grows.
- Accountability & encouragement: If you sleep train your baby with a book, app, or online program, you won’t have ongoing accountability or encouragement when things don’t go as planned. Maybe your baby is struggling to connect sleep cycles during naps, or starts waking up in the night again. If you don’t have personal support, it’s common to feel discouraged or give up. Your coach will hold your hand and guide you through whatever comes up so that you can stay on track and know how to handle any setback in the future.
- Rapid troubleshooting: Sleep training progress isn’t often linear, and things don’t often go as planned. Let’s say your baby gets sick or goes through a developmental leap after your coach leaves (huge developmental leaps are super common after a baby consistently gets 10-12 hours of sleep!). Or, you might hit a big setback with illness or teething. Without real-time support, you could quickly slip back into old patterns and end up back where you started. If that happens, your coach is only a text away to help you troubleshoot in real time so you’re never left guessing what to do. With her guidance, you won’t go back to where you started. She’ll guide you to maintain healthy sleep habits through any regression.
Why Real-Time Support Works Better than DIY Sleep Training
If you try to sleep train your baby with a book, online program, or with a remote baby sleep consultant, you won’t have live, real-time support. Without real-time support, it’s nearly impossible to remain consistent when your baby’s crying. If you don’t feel confident about what you’re doing, or if you’re changing your strategy every day, your baby will cry more than necessary, and will get confused. Most of our clients have already tried sleep training independently and failed because their baby cried so hard they gave up. That doesn’t happen with our support. Your baby will cry less, learn quickly, and you’ll achieve sustainable results faster than any other method you’ll find. Here’s why:
- Immediate course correction. When things don’t go as planned, your coach will help you pivot in real-time and maintain progress through any challenges.
- Reduced stress. With so many sleep training methods available online, you’re naturally confused about which approach to follow. Your coach will ensure that you feel relaxed and confident throughout the entire sleep training process, so your baby cries less and learns faster.
- Faster results: With our support, your baby will master independent sleep skills faster and easier, with fewer tears and stress. Your coach will be with you through the entire process, tweaking our approach in real time, so that your baby doesn’t get confused.
- Emotional reassurance: Sleep training your baby can be emotional for you, and is especially challenging for lactating moms. You might cry when your baby cries. You will worry if you’re doing the right thing. Your coach will support you and help you navigate any emotions that come up.

FAQs About Sleep Training a Baby
What is real-time baby sleep training?
Real-time baby sleep training means working alongside an expert baby sleep consultant in your home. With Mommywise, our packages include 3-5 consecutive nights and days where your coach is with you around the clock, working on nighttime sleep and naps. You’ll receive real-time feedback and personalized guidance while your baby’s sleep habits transform. Will receive personalized guidance through every decision in real-time so your baby masters independent sleep skills as quickly and easily as possible.
How is real-time support different from virtual sleep training programs?
Tired of second-guessing yourself with online sleep training programs or virtual consultants? Our in-home baby sleep coaching provides real-time, around-the-clock support. We’ll guide you through every moment—from naps to nights—helping you make split-second decisions and respond to all of your baby’s needs. You’ll have an expert at your side through every decision. This means faster results, fewer tears, and independent sleep skills in a matter of days.
Who is the best overnight sleep training consultant?
With humility, we can confidently say that Mommywise has the best, most experienced team of overnight sleep training consultants in the world. Mommywise founder Natalie is the pioneer of in-home baby sleep training, and the first baby sleep training consultant to offer comprehensive, in-home, real-time sleep training support. We have a 100% success rate and 15 years of five-star reviews. No virtual baby sleep consultant offers the level of personalized support that we do.
What happens after the consultant leaves?
When your coach leaves your home, your baby will know how to sleep independently, night and day, but it won’t be perfect. We include unlimited, dedicated guidance for 4 weeks after your coach leaves – or until you achieve all your goals (even if it goes beyond 4 weeks!). You’ll have weekly calls scheduled, but text your coach anytime you have questions between calls – she’ll offer to troubleshoot in real time by text or phone. We include unlimited guidance because naps can take 2-3 weeks before they fall into a predictable pattern, and you’ll probably hit some setbacks along the way. Your coach will ensure that you feel confident overcoming setbacks and help you settle into an ideal schedule before your package ends. She’ll also leave you with written, tailored guidance to maintain healthy sleep habits until your baby transfers to a big kid bed.
Can real-time sleep training work for newborns?
Yes — We work with babies from 12 weeks old, and 12+ pounds. Sleep training a newborn is slightly different than an older baby, but we do it all the time! To achieve sustainable results, your baby must be healthy (any reflux is already treated) and able to suck their hands. We will also discuss ensuring that you’re ready to have your baby in their own room (with a good quality video monitor!*), reduce to one overnight feed, and unswaddle your baby.
*Yes we know about the AAP guidelines, but it’s very conservative advice and not necessary for most. If you have a good quality video monitor and your bedrooms aren’t far apart (like on another floor or wing of your home), it’s perfectly safe for your baby to be in their own room.
Can someone sleep train my baby for me?
Yes and no! If your baby is on the younger side and unafraid of strangers, your Mommywise sleep coach can help you with sleep training. You will still do all the parenting and caretaking, but your sleep coach can help you by modeling how to put your baby down for sleep, and she will invite you to sleep overnight while she observes your baby in the monitor. If your baby is older (7+ months), it’s best if you do all the putting down and interventions to make it easier for your child. If you’re super exhausted or very sensitive to crying, one parent can even stay at a hotel to catch up on sleep! As long as one caregiver is in your home to help make decisions for your baby, you can have your coach work with your nanny during the day, and take turns sleeping at night!
How long does it take to see results with real-time sleep training?
Many families see significant improvements in just a few days, thanks to immediate course correction and consistent routines. If you read our reviews, most parents say that their baby slept through the night on the 2nd or 3rd night with our in-home sleep coaching support. It’s not always that fast, and it will take a bit longer if your baby is going through a developmental leap (ie, learning to roll). Naps can take 2+ weeks to settle into a new pattern, but that’s why we offer unlimited real-time support after your coach leaves your home.
Is in-home sleep training right for my baby?
Yes. We exclusively offer real-time, in-home sleep training support because we know from years of experience that it’s the fastest, easiest way for babies and toddlers to master independent sleep skills. It helps babies learn quickly because we’re adjusting our strategy for your child in real time, leading to faster, sustainable results. In-home sleep coaching support works for babies from newborn (12+ weeks) to toddlers (age 4), and is always tailored for your child’s unique needs, personality, developmental stage, and so much more.
